The 7th Annual MacLeod’s Fuels November Food Drive Fundraiser in support of local food banks has been a resounding success. Due to COVID 19 restrictions, this year marks the first time the food drive has focused on raising money

instead of non-perishable food items. Our customers and corporate partners have answered the call and the financial donation to local food banks is significant.

Along with collecting donations from customers and corporate partners, MacLeod’s Fuels committed to matching every donation up to a maximum of $10,000.00.

The grand total raised in support of local food banks is $23,969.73. The beneficiaries of these donations, Loaves and Fishes (Sydney), the Glace Bay Food Bank and the St. Vincent De Paul Society Food Bank (New Waterford) will receive all matched donations collected from their area, with the corporate donations being shared equally between the 3 food banks.

Donations from individual customers of MacLeod’s Fuels totaled $7,969.73.

MacLeod's Fuels Offering Fuel Discount to Help Fill Food Banks

MacLeod's Plumbing & Heating & Fuel Delivery offered a discount of 1 cent per litre to any customer who donated a non-perishable food item to help fill the shelves at local food banks every year during the month of November.Customers dropped off their food donation at any of the MacLeod's Fuels offices or arrange to leave their donation for the oil truck drivers upon delivery.

November Food Drive is the most successful to date

New Waterford, NS, December 12, 2019 - The 6th annual MacLeod’s Fuels November Food Drive was a success and helped local food banks fill their shelves in advance of the busy holiday season.

The annual tradition has MacLeod’s Fuels customers donating food items for discounts on home heating oil, and Pattie-Anne MacLeod says this year was by far the most successful.

“A few years back we saw an opportunity to make a positive impact in our community, and with the support of MacLeod’s Fuels customers we have continued the tradition of giving back.”

The beneficiaries of the donations are the food banks in Sydney, New Waterford and Glace Bay.

Cathy Timmons of the food bank in New Waterford says the annual donation by MacLeod’s Fuels is by far the single biggest donation they receive all year.

“Some folks give money or gift cards” says Timmons, “but MacLeod’s give a large amount of food, I mean, it’s overwhelming.”

She says the staff at each MacLeod’s Fuels locations go the extra mile to help volunteers load the food into their vehicles on their weekly pick-up

“The plumbers, oil truck drivers, even the office staff help load the food into our volunteers’ cars every Friday, they can’t do enough for you, it’s amazing.”

MacLeod’s Fuels supports numerous charities, sports teams and cultural events throughout the year with the November Food Drive being its signature campaign.
